Every piece of music you have ever loved began as a ghost.

Before the pen hits the page, before the ledger lines are drawn, and before an instrument ever changes the air in a room, music exists in a state of pure, weightless potential. It is a fluid, deeply subjective architecture shifting inside the composer’s mind, an internal resonance that threatens to evaporate the moment you try to catch it.

Welcome to Facets of Sound, hosted by award-winning composer Rosśa Crean.

This podcast is a dedicated audio vehicle for that exact boundary, meaning that liminal space between the infinite, unwritten thought and the raw friction of the physical score.

We are not a traditional concert hall, and we do not curate the safe, mainstream canon. Instead, Facets of Sound is a sanctuary for the independent, the under-the-radar, and the historically marginalized creators who operate on the razor-edge of contemporary classical music. Each episode, we take a single sensory prompt, including themes like the fragile decay of DUST, the digital fractures of GLITCH, the crushing mass of WEIGHT, or the carnal urgency of FLESH, and leave them entirely open to interpretation.

Through highly textural radio storytelling and six deeply immersive, hand-selected tracks per episode, we turn the prism to examine the unmapped corners of modern composition. We invite you to bypass the polished expectations of the classical industry.

Lean in. Listen to the scratch, the silence, and the beautiful imperfections of fresh ink. Discover the voices rewriting the future of sound, one facet at a time.

The podcast is currently holding an Open Call for Recordings that will be featured in Series One. All works must be by living composers and written after the year 2000. Rosśa has curated this series in eight episodes, which are framed as subjective sensory prompts rather than rigid definitions. This allows submitting composers to see exactly where their music's texture, energy, or philosophy might find a home, while keeping the final narrative entirely open to your interpretation. Composers and performers can submit their information and recordings HERE!

Episode 01: DUST

The Vibe: Fragile, scratchy, tactile, and decaying.

Looking For: Works that inhabit stillness, value silence, or embrace acoustic friction and the raw mechanics of the instruments (e.g., sul ponticello, key clicks, breath sounds, "dirty ink"). Music that feels like a disappearing history or a delicate texture dissolving into an empty room.

Episode 02: GLITCH

The Vibe: The broken machine, digital errors, and systemic friction.

Looking For: Pieces utilizing electronics, hacked gear, max/msp processing, hardware manipulation, or traditional acoustic instruments mimicking digital failure. We are seeking music built on stuttering loops, beautiful mistakes, bitcrushed textures, and structural fractures.

Episode 03: WEIGHT

The Vibe: Sonic gravity, crushing mass, versus absolute weightlessness.

Looking For: Works that explore the physics and emotion of gravity. This spans from dense, heavy, grounding orchestrations and low-frequency mass to suspended, airy, floating micro-gestures that seem completely unmoored from the earth.

Episode 04: PRESSURE

The Vibe: Sonic compression, claustrophobia, and systemic tension.

Looking For: High-tension, high-stakes music pushed to the absolute edge of structural collapse. We want pieces that use extreme dynamics, tightly wound acoustic compression, or relentless pacing to evoke a sense of being trapped, contained, or pushed to a breaking point.

Episode 05: FLESH

The Vibe: The visceral, biological human element.

Looking For: Music that centers the physical body as a site of expression. We are looking for works featuring heavy breathing, raw vocalizations, unconventional choral/vocal techniques, or chamber music that feels deeply carnal, urgent, and biologically grounded.

Episode 06: STATIC

The Vibe: Hypnosis, architectural space, and immobility.

Looking For: Long-form microtonal frequencies, sustained drones, and minimalist soundscapes that freeze or alter the listener's perception of time. Music that acts like an installation, filling a room with architectural resonance and stillness.

Episode 07: SHADOW

The Vibe: Eerie, submerged, nocturnal, and marginal.

Looking For: Pieces that exist in the dark or under the surface. We want music that explores filtered acoustic spaces, hidden identities, muted or submerged timbres, and the uncanny textures that arrive when the lights go out.

Episode 08: SPARK

The Vibe: Friction, kinetic energy, and sudden bursts of neon light.

Looking For: High-velocity, hyper-kinetic music built on sharp attacks, brilliant sonic fire, and rapid rhythmic vitality. We are seeking pieces that crackle with electricity, sudden explosive transitions, and intense kinetic momentum.
