NEW MUSIC FOR YOUNG VOICES CONSORTIUM

I have noticed over the last several years the demand for new vocal music that is geared towards younger voices, both in and out of academia. Much of the accessible vocal repertoire nowadays is written for the professional sphere, with 24 Italian Songs and Arias and The Singers Musical Theatre Anthology really being the only available collections being marketed towards the younger voice demographic. It is due to this that I would love to create and compose a new collection of songs in English that are created with the voice-in-training in mind, and I need your help to make that happen.

My goal is to form a consortium that will help me in my mission to compose 20 new songs using text from a diverse selection of poets both living and no longer with us. I want to set texts from a variety of poets including those who are queer, BIPOC, female, and transgender. A spectrum of moods will also be a priority. The poetry selected will represent topics that are representative of the young person's experience. I will accept suggestions for poetry from those who join the consortium, as well as factors that are important to any of you as instructors and vocalists. After all, this is being created as a beneficial tool for your studio, as well as your own studies.

A majority of songs will be vocal/piano, with 2 to 5 unaccompanied songs included. Song duration will be between 1.5 to 4 minutes, and will also be tagged by theme for those looking for a collection of pieces to perform in recital.

Our hope is to get 60 participants minimum in this project, so please spread the word by sharing the link to this page to others you feel may be interested.
